The north coast is extremely popular. A bit further south are the major resort towns of Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie. This region is a paradise for those who love the water. Surfing, fishing, boating and beach life are the main attractions. To the west of Newcastle is the Hunter Valley and this is world renowned as one of the best wine growing regions. The region is dotted with cellar doors and great resorts that make a fabulous weekend retreat. Sydney is the capital and everyone knows of its beauty and its attractions. The Sydney Opera house and the Sydney Harbour Bridge are on every tourist's itinerary. There is so much to see and do here you could easily spend a month just exploring. From here it is a short journey to visit the Blue Mountains which lie on Sydney's western boundary. The scenery here is spectacular with high sandstone escarpments overlooking fantastic valleys. Some of it is so inaccessible that bushwalkers recently discovered the Wolomi Pine, the only living specimen in the world of a tree that dates back to the dinosaurs. The Three Sisters and Janolan Caves are two other must see destinations in this region.
Travelling south from Sydney along the coast will take you through some of Australia's best coastal scenery. The beaches are spectacular and you can travel for hundreds of kilometers along spectacular coastline and visiting an array of beautiful fishing villages and towns. Towns like Eden, Bega, Batemans bay, Moruya, Ulladulla, Nowra and Woolongong each have thier own special charm. Inland is the Australian Capital Territory or the ACT and the city of Canberra. This is the nation capital and the seat of government. It is a must see for its fabulous galleries, museums and historical significance. The Snowy Mountains lie in the south east corner of the state and this is the home of some of Australia’s most popular skiing destinations. Jindabyne, at the foot of the mountains, serves as a jumping off point for the fabulous ski resorts at Thredbo, Perisher Valley, Charlottes Pass and Mt Selwyn. These resorts are well known around the world and provide the international skier with the opportunity to continue skiing right through the northern summer. All resorts have modern ski facilities like plenty of lift capacity, Snowmaking, ski hire and tuition are all available and unlike some other countries there is also plenty of on snow accommodation. Everything taken in to account, New South Wales is one of the best holiday locations you will find in Australia and it will rival anything you will find elsewhere in the world.
